Freedom to change the world.
Giving great people the opportunity to be great is as central to the Capital One philosophy today as it was on day one. Regardless of identity or background, everyone deserves a chance to thrive and realize their full potential in an environment where they’re understood, valued and respected. Our goal is to build a place where every person feels empowered to unleash ideas for our customers that could change the world.
The push for greater diversity and inclusion permeates all levels of business at Capital One. Our aim is to unify and focus our shared commitment to a fully inclusive environment and turn it into actionable strategy. Enter Lane Hopkins, Capital One’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. With her leadership, we're working towards making sure everyone feels motivated, empowered, and most importantly, valued. Because fostering diversity is only the beginning—going beyond that to promote an atmosphere of inclusion in which people feel welcome to express their authentic selves is what moves the needle. For Lane, it’s not just a “feel good” idea—it’s “a powerful way to run a business. A diverse group of perspectives drives better innovation and problem solving, which builds a better business and a stronger Capital One.”

Board of Directors and Executive Committee
Our Board and EC are routinely involved in discussions about our diversity and inclusion programs. Formal updates are provided on the overall effectiveness of our D&I programs, progress on goals and areas of opportunities.
Our EC members are proactively supporting our agenda and advancing our culture of inclusion. We believe aligning our EC members to Associate Networks is a win/win proposition—it maintains heightened focus on building a talent pipeline, increasing representation and inclusiveness, while advancing our employer of choice efforts (e.g., targeted recruitment, retention, talent development, etc.).
Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board/Line of Business Diversity Councils
In 2014, we launched the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board (DIAB), made up of representatives from our Corporate Diversity & Inclusion team and Diversity Champions for each line of business. The DIAB keeps focus on our enterprise diversity and inclusion strategy and helps our Diversity Champions align their local goals to that strategy. In this way, we ensure the entire team is working toward a united set of goals. Many of our lines of businesses have dedicated Diversity Councils, whose representatives link into the DIAB.
Associate Networks
Capital One offers a host of associate networks and connection groups to support our increasingly diverse workforce. Associates have access to programs, resources, and tools that enable them to realize their full potential in an environment that values their uniqueness and can connect with colleagues through cultural experiences and learning opportunities. Each network is aligned with Capital One’s overall goals of recruiting, developing and retaining talent and leveraging differences to achieve success for the organization.
We have seven Associate Networks: African American, Asian, CapAbilities (People with Disabilities), Hispanic, LGBT, Military and Women's.
