As a Business Manager, you will architect the logic that drives our business forward. You will apply strategic and analytical rigor to our most complex challenges, sitting at the intersection of business strategy, engineering, and data science. Team Description

Role Description

As a Business Manager, you will be the bridge between visionary business strategy and high-fidelity data science. You will partner deeply with Data Scientists and Engineers to ensure that real customer problems are being solved. This is a role for a high-velocity thinker who can deep dive and understand new domains and processes in detail, and uncover nuances to enable transformation of these new areas.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Strategic leadership: Develop business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands.

  • Execution: Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently.

  • Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: Tech, Model Risk, Lines of Business, and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability.

  • Strategic & analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, and understanding of Statistical / ML models.

  • Leadership: May manage and develop analysts. Coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One.

  • Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business. 

  • Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials. Communicate technical subject matter clearly and concisely to individuals from various backgrounds both verbally and through written communication; prepare presentations of complex technical concepts and research results to non-specialist audiences and senior management.

  • Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment. 

  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. 

The ideal candidate is:

  • Inquisitive. You thrive on bringing definition to big, undefined problems. You love asking questions and pushing hard to find answers. You are not afraid to share a new idea.

  • Quantitative and ML/Statistically-minded. You’ve built models, validated them, and worked with them.

  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. You are comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy cutting through distractions to discern priorities and create structure where none exists.

  • You understand the big picture but are also able to execute with close attention to detail.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in statistics, math, engineering, economics, econometrics, finance, or operations research with a quantitative focus.

  • At least 5 years work experience in analytics.

Preferred Skills:

  • 3+ years experience with R or Python,  relational databases , SQL.

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • 1+ years people management experience.

  • Experience in financial services industry.

  • Proficiency in key econometric and statistical techniques, model design, development and deployment experience.

  • Experience translating business strategy and analysis into products and actionable outcomes for business.
