Capital One Trade Credit (COTC) provides customizable, tech-enabled B2B credit solutions for enterprise-scale Partners to serve their end business customers. Our trade credit solutions enable our Partners to grow sales, improve working capital, reduce risk, increase operational efficiency and enhance their customer experience throughout the purchase-to-payment lifecycle.
The trade credit value prop to our Partners is powered by our strength in full-spectrum business underwriting. We are seeking a highly skilled underwriter to join our COTC Credit team to make account decisions for our most valuable customers.
In this role, you will have primary accountability for analyzing business and personal financial conditions to evaluate credit worthiness and prepare detailed recommendations for loan decisions. You will assess financial statements and additional data to understand revenues, profitability, cashflow, sustainability, and overall risks. You will present your decisions to senior approvers, client strategy leads, partners, and directly to customers.
Responsibilities:
Make credit recommendations on cases up to $1M+ exposure and maintain individual signing authority up to $250K exposure
Conduct business interviews to understand client business model, sources of revenue, merchant spend, and future projections
Assess business financial performance against policy guardrails
Prepare clear, concise analysis supporting credit decision recommendations and provide rationale for any deviations from loan policy, procedures and guidelines
Identify and mitigate key credit risks
Adhere to all applicable regulations and the expected execution standards
Request additional business and personal information to address key identified risks
Demonstrate exceptional service in all interactions with customers and partners
Support related portfolio risk management activities such as partner counterparty risk assessment, annual portfolio reviews, portfolio performance monitoring, and ad hoc portfolio risk analysis
Support evolution of the high-line underwriting process as the business continues to grow
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree or military experience
- At least 3 years of experience in credit underwriting or
- At least 3 years of experience in portfolio management or
- At least 3 years of experience in asset management
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of experience in credit underwriting
- At least 5 years of Financial Services risk management experience
- Ability to work autonomously and cross-functionally

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $132,800 - $151,600 for Risk Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
