The Capital One Privacy Compliance & Risk team is seeking an Associate with a passion for mitigating privacy risk at a tech-focused financial institution. The Associate will join us to perform key privacy compliance activities on the second line of defense and will help manage privacy risk under applicable federal, state, and international privacy laws and regulations.
The Associate will support our second line of defense team that advises the business on how to implement and honor individuals’ privacy preferences for the sharing and use of data, an integral part of Privacy Compliance & Risk. The Associate will work closely with the business, legal, tech, and risk partners, and be a resource on privacy processes. The Associate will collaborate with an experienced and diverse group of Compliance professionals and help ensure adherence to our Compliance Management Policy. A successful Associate is highly motivated, enjoys problem solving, and is able to work well in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
Assess and document business initiatives that may use or share customer data and determine the need to perform relevant suppression practices
Provide effective challenge and guidance on compliance risks and support lines of business through various interactions and forum engagements
Advise lines of business in the development and maintenance of the Compliance Management Program, such as how to monitor, report, and train
Review Complaints generated from lines of business and provide guidance on remediation, escalate and facilitate with subject matter experts, when necessary
Conduct targeted validations on controls over applicable regulations
Engage with compliance testing and third party compliance teams
Maintain understanding of Compliance Risk Management Framework and applicable laws and regulations
Assist in capturing, maintaining, and analyzing data, interpreting it to identify trends and adequate Compliance Risk Management
Actively participate on projects through providing guidance, advise, and effective challenge
Participate in reporting activities in a support role
Basic Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or military experience
At least one year of privacy compliance, legal or risk management experience
At least one year of analytical experience within the financial services industry
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
2+ years of experience in privacy compliance, legal, or risk management
2+ years of years of financial services consumer compliance monitoring, risk, or auditing experience
CIPP (Certified International Privacy Professional) or CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager) certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $80,100 - $91,400 for Compliance Advisory Specialist I
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
