Director, Chief of Staff - Enterprise Consumer Products Tech

The Director, Chief of Staff is a critical position supporting senior leadership, enabling leaders to execute strategic work while ensuring operational rigor. The Chief of Staff will partner with the Managing Vice President within Enterprise Consumer Products Tech (ECPT) organization, which in turn is part of the Enterprise Platforms Technology (EPTech) division. The ECPT organization comprises the Enterprise Mobile application (iOS, Android, Website), the SITE Capitalone.com, test and experimentation platform, LABS organization that drives innovation and the CORE modernization platforms. Collectively these comprise of the most critical Enterprise Platforms that propel growth and innovation for all lines of businesses. The Chief of Staff is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining the following four strategic areas foundational for the success of the organization: 1) Strategy, 2) Operational Excellence, 3) Organizational Culture, and 4) Communications.

Candidates should have a passion for technology, strong strategic command, an engaging executive presence, exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills, expertise in relationship-building, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once. Candidates should be excited about improving the daily lives and development of our engineers and help our leaders advance our strategy at scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner for our Enterprise Consumer Products Tech (ECPT) leadership team, helping guide the operations and management of the organization. 

  • Act as a central point of contact between the ECPT leadership team, the EPTech business operations and strategy teams and peer Chiefs of Staff, and other key partners. Ensure alignment of leaders across the organization. 

  • Create, execute, and refine agenda for weekly staff meetings, bi-monthly leadership working sessions, quarterly leadership offsite with product partners, and quarterly all hands meetings.

  • Responsible for creating talking points for all key leaders for all the leadership all hands meetings and AMA (ask me anything) sessions.

  • Prioritize and focus leaders in a number of key areas (goals, labor strategy, budget, associate engagement, culture, operational excellence, etc). Aid the leadership team in strategic planning, uncovering critical efficiencies and preventing duplication of effort.

  • Understand the organization’s strategy and vision, lead the leadership team to drive and track goals and priorities. Tackle and solve issues through escalation and articulate the issues that need to be done to elevate the team and allow easy accountability. 

  • Assist the leadership team with strategic planning including financial, workplace, and resource planning in collaboration with key partners, including the EPTech Leadership,  Business Operations and Strategy teams, other Chiefs of Staff, Finance, and HR.

  • Create and manage effective, scalable processes to manage operating rhythms. Requires an ability to lead and influence to inject new operational processes to drive executional discipline and excellence. Craft operating routines and regularly participate in team meetings, offsites, and huddles.

  • Work closely with all business units and functions to align operations with strategy. Coordinate with product and business teams to build and execute on strategy. Influence across all levels of the organization and across organizations. 

  • Work with the leadership team and communications team to plan and execute key messages and deliver to internal and external audiences with a high priority on consistent, frequent organizational communications. Communicate plans and execution status for divisional strategic programs. 

  • Develop relationships within direct and extended team members to be able to act as an informed and helpful sounding board and thought partner.

  • Lead staff to focus on culture and improving organizational engagement across the organization.

  • Coordinate associate engagement related activities in partnership with the CORE Chief of Staff and EPTech Associate Engagement teams related to associate survey response strategies, associate and organization-wide recognition, learning & development, and other culture-related initiatives. 

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Demonstrate strong communications proficiency, including across teams and organizations, and have experience utilizing oral and written communication skills along with presentation skills

  • Have the ability to multitask with simultaneous projects and tasks, while demonstrating urgency, prioritization, and ownership to drive issues to completion

  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to be goal/execution-oriented

  • Be able to react seamlessly to change in priorities and delivery focus

  • Be self-motivated

  • Be capable of balancing strategy and tactical delivery

  • Execute a strategic approach to all things especially process and operations

  • Act as a thought partner to leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 7 years of experience in Project Management, Process Management, or Program Management 

  • At least 4 years of experience working with cross-functional teams

  • At least 3 years of experience managing executive level stakeholders across different business functions

  • At least 3 years of experience partnering with engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management or STEM-related field 

  • 5+ years of experience in people management 

  • 3+ years of experience in strategy development

  • 3+ years of experience in budgeting and labor strategy

  • 3+ years of experience driving organizational change and operational excellence

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $233,100 - $266,000 for Director, Chief of Staff

San Francisco and San Jose, California (Hybrid On-Site): $246,900 - $281,800 for Director, Chief of Staff

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
