Director, Enterprise Risk Management - Adherence Monitoring

This includes enabling our organizations to maintain accurate and complete risk statements, controls and all elements of the Capital One risk management framework. You’ll also bring your unique perspective and experiences to help us be rigorous, curious and creative. 

Enterprise Risk Management is the center of risk management for our company and covers all categories of risk, governing policies and standards, risk assessments, and issue and event management. The Adherence Monitoring team within ERM is focused on developing tools and monitoring of all of our risk management processes to ensure our company effectively manages business objectives and satisfies regulatory requirements. 

We are seeking a dedicated, disciplined, and innovative process professional who excels in a team environment. This individual will have experience in risk management, improving processes, identifying with the perspective of our customers, and being able to connect the regulatory environment to processes. This individual must be able to effectively communicate and influence partners across the company and across multiple levels of the organization. Strong problem solving and analytical skills, attention to detail, process/project management capability, and results driven are essential to succeeding in this role. This individual should feel comfortable working with quantitative and qualitative information and can move from the “gray” area to grounded recommendations in an organized and transparent manner.

 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Lead our formal adherence monitoring program across all lines of businesses and Capital One risk categories

  • Play a key role in contributing to the effective design, delivery and sustainability of our risk management framework

  • Collaborate with our stakeholder community (e.g. risk managers, risk leads, Independent Risk Management groups, business risk offices, front line process owners) to mature our risk management practices

  • Leverage data and analytics to manage risk and proactively identify and report on risks and trends

  • Actively support internal and external audits and exams

  • Stay abreast of the changing regulatory environment and understand the applicability and impacts to Capital One

  • Lead a team of professionals to advise and consult key partners to drive effective risk identification, assessment, and disposition.

  • Set direction, manage expectations and lead cross-functional teams

  • Foster an environment of trust, collaboration & belonging while leading a team of risk managers 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience 

  • At least 4 years of Financial Services experience

  • At least 6 years of Risk Management experience

  • At least 2 years of People Management experience  

 

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to above):

  • Masters Degree

  • 7+ years of Financial Services risk management experience

  • 7+ years of experience in Project or Process Management

  • 5+ years of internal strategy or management consulting experience leading cross functional financial services projects and programs 

  • 5+ years of people management experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Chicago, IL: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management


 

McLean, VA: $206,000 - $235,100 for Director, Risk Management


 

Richmond, VA: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management


 

Riverwoods, IL: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management


 


 


 


 


 


 


 

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
