As the Director, Executive Coach & Head of Executive Development, you will serve as a high-impact practitioner and a strategic leader. This role is dedicated to the direct coaching and team facilitation of senior leaders (~70%) while overseeing the enterprise-wide Executive Development portfolio (~30%), which includes Executive Coaching, coaching for high-potential associates, and the Executive Onboarding program. You will be a visionary for leadership excellence, ensuring that executives successfully contribute to the company culture to drive business impact.

  • An Incisive Facilitator: Comfortable packaging insights for senior audiences and navigating complex team dynamics to achieve effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Coaching & Facilitation (70%)

  • Guide New Executive Integration (NEI): Provide external VP+ hires with opportunities to reflect on culture, people, and organizational nuances during their first 6 months.

  • Coach for Leadership Brand: Help executives develop their leadership "brand," manage polarities, and navigate the political landscape and cultural norms.

  • Lead Diagnostic Assessments: Administer and debrief instruments such as Hogan Leadership Forecast Series or Change Styles Indicator to provide personality and preference insights.

  • Conduct 360 Feedback: Lead the full lifecycle of 360-degree feedback, including interviewing stakeholders, synthesizing data, and debriefing the executive and their support system.

  • Facilitate Team Effectiveness: Design and facilitate strategic team sessions focused on co-creating successful "ways of working," establishing operational norms, and defining accountability structures that drive alignment and push toward superior business outcomes.

  • Drive Strategic Alignment: Partner with executives on talent assessments, management structure adjustments, and strategies for socializing ideas within the organization.

Portfolio Leadership & Strategy (30%)

  • Oversee Executive Onboarding Program: Lead the strategy for the Executive Onboarding & Integration Program, ensuring a consistent journey for all external VP+ hires.

  • Manage Enterprise Coaching Strategy: Lead the delivery of internal coaching for executives via the NEI and Investment Coaching programs.

  • Vendor Strategy & Partnership: Oversee our strategic relationships with external coaching vendors (e.g., RiseSmart, BetterUp). Set a clear, enterprise-wide strategy for how we leverage external vendors to provide scalable, high-impact coaching for our associate population.

  • Develop New Executive Development Offerings: Analyze gaps in the current executive development suite to design and launch a "refreshed" portfolio that moves beyond traditional 1:1 coaching.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience.

  • At least 7 years of experience in Executive Coaching, Leadership Development, or Human Resources.

  • At least 5 years of experience in People Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Coaching Certification (ICF or equivalent).

  • Advanced degree in Organizational Development, Instructional Design, or Psychology.

  • At least 10 years of experience in client consulting or advising senior executive leadership.

  • Proven track record of building and elevating a development function within a large, matrixed organization.

  • Expertise in adult learning science and human-centered design to shape strategy and products.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
