Director of Search Engine Marketing and Project Management (Hybrid)

The Marketing Director will be responsible for a team of Search Engine Marketing specialists and a team of Project Managers supporting the Marketing team. The team of SEM specialists manage the day-to-day operations and campaign execution for one of Capital One’s largest acquisition channels - Paid Search. The role includes setting channel strategy, supporting product initiatives across a diverse organization, enhancing how our team operates, and constantly looking for ways to optimize the broader program. The team of Project Managers support all of our marketing channels managing the intent intake & prioritization process, supporting the creative development process, managing marketing platform access, supporting our monthly budgeting process and other ad hoc projects as needed.  A key part of this role is looking for ways to automate and optimize processes to make the Marketing team overall more efficient and effective.

Responsibilities:

  • Solid understanding of performance marketing, conversions, and online customer acquisition

  • Lead, train and manage a team of Search Engine Marketing associates to build and execute paid search campaigns in-house

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies, betas, and new opportunities; advise on new ways to reach audiences

  • Oversee daily management of search campaigns from planning and execution to analysis and reporting; Ensure team launches campaigns error-free

  • Collaborate with internal partners to develop digital strategies for product launches, run tests and scale opportunities to grow new customer acquisition

  • Develop and execute campaign testing agenda, including; ad copy, landing page, audience, and channel expansion testing

  • Oversee the team in writing ad copy for the channel

  • Partner with business analytics team to track and measure performance and report on campaign effectiveness

  • Identify opportunities for performance optimizations across the account

  • Ensure the channels are run in a well-managed way, documenting key artifacts and looking for ways to optimize processes

  • Coordinate across internal teams including Legal, Compliance, Brand, Customer Experience, Analytics, Data, Technology to drive work forward 

  • Manage and strengthen partnerships with third party vendors to ensure account teams bring value through their services

  • Manage Enterprise relationship with third party vendor, Persado and drive an RFP looking for alternate vendor solutions in this space

  • Oversee monthly budgeting process and platform access for all marketing channels 

  • Oversee the creative development process for the Outbound Marketing team and the article development pipeline for the Content Marketing team, looking for ways to develop more, high quality assets/articles quickly and efficiently 

  • Oversee influencer/creator monitoring and rights management

  • Reimagine the intent management process for how we intake, prioritize and communicate updates on work with partners

  • Inform requirements for the build of enterprise solutions for things like digital asset management and legal/compliance review tools

  • Constantly be looking for new tools to automate manual processes 

  • “Self-starter”, strong organizational skills, ownership mentality, ability to prioritize workloads, and fast learner of new digital marketing and project management technology tools

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in Digital Marketing, managing multi-million dollar campaigns

  • At least 3 years of experience in people management

  • At least 1 year of experience in project management  

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • At least 8 years of experience in Search Engine Marketing OR related experience managing high volume digital marketing accounts and large media budgets

  • Experience leading organizations with a variety of job families (marketing, project management, etc.)

  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal)

  • Strong business acumen and data backed decision making 

  • History of cultivating trusting relationships with key partners and leaders

  • At least 2 years of experience in project management

  • At least 1 year of experience in product development

  • Knowledge of Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Skai, Workfront, Persado, Terakeet

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $200,100 - $228,400 for Director, Marketing

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
