We’re looking for a Director to lead a brand new Data Product and Privacy team. The ideal candidate will be someone who can lead the strategy of transforming our data into a product that can power automation and AI use cases to allow us to lower the price of Velocity and expand its impact on Capital One at large. In addition to setting strategy, the Data Product and Privacy Lead will be responsible for driving tactical implementation of building out new data products and ensuring that our data remains well managed. This includes blazing a trail as one of Capital One’s first businesses to be in scope for GDPR compliance. Your work with Legal and Compliance to improve our GDPR program will open doors for future international expansions. The data strategy lead will be expected to build out a new team of 3-5 associates ranging from data product managers, to data engineers, and project managers.

The role is a great mix of high impact strategy, product management, and tactical execution that would set you up well as the type of general manager that thrives at Capital One (and beyond). In this role, you’ll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in four key areas:

  • You’ll deeply learn the financial drivers, externalities, and points of leverage within your domain to identify new products or product enhancements that drive sustainable value for Capital One

  • You’ll be promote a culture anchored in data, used to instrument products, validate outcomes, drive insights, and manage the business both tactically and strategically

• Technology Driven

  • You’ll be responsible for fostering a strong agile discipline and inspiring teams to continuously improve delivery evidenced through key agility metrics

  • You’ll partner with Technology leaders to influence end-state architecture and drive secure, resilient, performant and scalable technology solutions that solve material customer and business problems

  • You’ll govern the responsible and efficient application of technology resources by assessing opportunities for reusing existing solutions, clearly defining minimum viable products, and always building with extensibility in mind

• Transformational Leadership 

  • You’ll establish a long-term product portfolio strategy, informed by customer and business needs, and partner with leaders and stakeholders to regularly drive alignment, secure resources and overcome impediments

  • You’ll attract, grow, empower, and inspire top product talent as they develop and deliver on their local product strategy in an iterative, outcome-focused and well-managed way

Responsibilities: 

• Own Velocity Black’s data strategy: Build and execute on a roadmap to identify our most important data elements, standardize our data, and lay the foundation for automation and AI models

• Lead our Data Product and Privacy team: of 3-5 associates and work closely with our horizontal tech teams to implement strategy

• Manage our data as a product: Listen to our data consumers, identify pain points, design elegant solutions and build data products that wow our internal data “customers” 

• Be a master executor: Identify appropriate performing teams, drive progress, clear roadblocks, and generally ensure flawless delivery of new data changes

• Be accountable for key well managed data initiatives including ensuring compliance with GDPR, other privacy regulations, and data security requirements

• Establish yourself as the GDPR and Privacy expert for VB (and beyond) 

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• At least 7 years of experience in digital product management 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

• MBA or Master’s degree

• 8+ years of experience in Agile product management

• 8+ years of experience translating business strategy and analysis into consumer facing digital products

• 5+ years of experience setting strategy in unstructured environments 

• 3+ years of experience working closely with tech teams and architects

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Sales Territory: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Product Management

 

Richmond, VA: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Product Management

 

New York, NY: $246,500 - $281,300 for Director, Product Management

 

McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Product Management

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
