Manager, Project Manager-CI&I Community Intelligence

Location: McLean, Virginia; New York, New York
Job ID R208601 Updated date 02/19/2025
Manager, Project Manager-CI&I Community Intelligence

Capital One, a Fortune 500 company and one of the nation’s top 10 banks, offers a broad spectrum of financial products and services to consumers, small businesses and commercial clients. Our goal is to create one of the nation’s great banks, and we have the necessary ingredients: a strong balance sheet, resilient businesses, a massive customer franchise, strong analytical capabilities, and great people. We nurture a work environment where people with a variety of thoughts, ideas and backgrounds, guided by our shared values, come together to make Capital One a great company – and a great place to work.

External Affairs (EA) works with many external and internal stakeholders to envision and create a world of greater socioeconomic opportunity through advocating for an inclusive society, building thriving communities, and creating financial tools that enrich lives. Our teams include Communications, Community Impact and Investment (CI&I), Community Finance, CRA Strategy and Program Management, the Government and Policy Affairs Group, Regulatory Relations, and Strategy and Engagement.  Through our teams, we have unparalleled access to a diverse group of motivated changemakers similarly focused on the ingredients for a more perfect future.

Our approach involves focusing on innovation and opportunity related to long term well being for our associates, customers, and communities. On the intersection between business and social impact.  On disruption and dreaming of a better way. This is the language of changing things for the better.

The CI&I team  creates impactful community outcomes and positions Capital One as the most strategically bold, innovative, and mission driven financial institution through:

  • Fueling strategic community investments (e.g. grants, skills, loans)

  • Delivering insights, advice and resources that inform Capital One’s products and services

  • Activating the capabilities of “impact forward” associates

The Community Impact and Investment team supports Capital One through leading enterprise volunteerism, conducting market research, fostering community relationships, grant making, originating CDFI loans and partnering with and advising LOBs.

The Opportunity and Role:

Community Impact and Investment is in the midst of a multiyear transformation to increasingly align business strategy and social impact; launch new, different, and more holistic approaches to investing in our communities; use Capital One’s volunteer time and talent in increasingly strategic ways; and use data, analytics, research, and inclusive design to inform more targeted and actionable consulting to our business partners on topics related to a broad view of financial inclusion.

We’re seeking a Manager, Project Manager - CI&I Community Intelligence to join our developing Managed Services function within our Market Engagement team. The Market Engagement team enables Capital One’s business continuity and growth by leveraging hyperlocal and national community intelligence to efficiently fulfill regulatory and societal commitments to low- to moderate-income (LMI) communities, amplify our investments, and cultivate powerful mission-driven collaborators who share our vision of creating economic opportunity for all. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a community intelligence engine that will serve a variety of key internal customers to provide them key insights, data, trends, and actionable recommendations to make strategically-aligned, well-informed, and in some cases, real-time investment and business decisions.

In this role, you’ll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in three key areas:

Build an Intelligence Product, Repeatable Processes, Resources and Tools that Meet Customer Needs

  • You’ll partner with our existing External Affairs Intelligence team to conceptualize and build a new hyper-local community intelligence capability to capture real-time community and social intelligence, national trends, and emerging challenges to inform actionable decisions with an eye towards responsive partnership, risk mitigation, and pivoting grant investments with precision

  • Partnering with our market leaders and Grant Intent Leads (GILs) you’ll design and codify a formal, repeatable process to capture and disseminate anecdotal and qualitative insights from our trusted partners and other community leaders

  • You’ll own the end-to-end process and project management for the development and build of this new capability, from conceptualization to design to implementation to iteration

Harness and Leverage Data to Inform Decision Making

  • You’ll create a communications product that packages critical intelligence and insights into actionable recommendations for strategic dissemination to a variety of internal customers to support their decision-making as it relates to grant investments, strategic alliances, emerging local events, reputational lift, and program design

  • You’ll produce reports, case studies, and presentations to share key findings with and across internal teams, leadership, and other stakeholders

  • You’ll serve as thought leader and contributor of hyper-local market data and intelligence for incorporation into Capital One-led conference sessions, convenings, hothouses, and other strategic events

  • You will attend key conferences and convenings nationwide in partnership with GILs and executives to systematically capture and disseminate key insights to inform decision-making, while managing a repeatable process for others across the team to do the same

Test, Learn, and Scale

  • You’ll monitor and report KPIs for your products, tools and interaction models and will be responsible for measuring and tracking those metrics, with an eye to adjusting and refining your strategy as the data and customer needs dictate

  • You’ll relentlessly seek ways to automate, streamline, and document our work to build the capacity of our team, our internal customers, and partners

We want you if you are:

  • Impact-driven. You dream big. You desire to make the world a better place, and you get energy from working with others with similar passions to accomplish big, bold goals.

  • Wired for Collaboration and Connection. You thrive in a matrixed organization because you know that together we can do better. You’re obsessed with building and cultivating relationships. You have a proven track record of building solutions co-delivered across teams

  • Customer Focused. You care about doing what’s best for the community and for Capital one’s associates. You don’t shy away from hard conversations or nuanced decision making because you know the best outcomes often go hand in hand with tough decisions. For the sake of the associate experience, you are comfortable holding your partners and your own team accountable for results.

  • Process Oriented. You loathe inefficient processes and look for ways to streamline and document everything you touch. You enjoy creating new processes when it is needed.

  • Enablement is your middle name. You are passionate about building tools that enable others, because you get energized by seeing those around you enabled to do their best work.

  • Do-er. You’re biased toward action, you try things and sometimes you fail. You can get around your own roadblocks and you remove obstacles for your team to stay focused on enterprise goals.
