The Talent Acquisition (TA) Risk team resides within Human Resources, focused on activities that provide broad, horizontal risk management support across the Talent Acquisition organization and processes that span the candidate lifecycle. This team works closely with the HR Risk Office, Legal, Compliance and other HR teams to resolve known issues, identify areas of emerging risk, and address risks and process deficiencies.
As an Investigator within Capital One’s Talent Acquisition Organization, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive investigations of alleged fraud or misconduct across the talent acquisition process. Key priorities for this position include conducting fact-based investigations in a thoughtful and timely manner, thoroughly documenting findings, and providing and escalating detailed information to management and partners to make important hiring, operations, and compliance decisions. Responsibilities will include:
Perform complex investigations of alleged misconduct, unethical activity, or violations of company policies throughout the recruiting and hiring processes
Conduct professional investigative interviews of internal associates and external job applicants, at times involving sensitive subject matter
Track and document investigations from initial detection through final resolution including documenting requests and activities in a case management system
Complete thorough risk assessments and make fact-based recommendations
Tailor and deliver communications in an effective, measured way to help influence the right outcomes with stakeholders and mitigate risk
Identify potential process or control gaps that may require remediation, or that may be indicative of more systemic breakdowns, trends, or emerging risks when considered in conjunction with other available information and investigative findings
Build and maintain effective working relationships with Talent Acquisition’s internal investigative partners and stakeholders, such as Cyber, Compliance, and Legal
Participate in internal projects that improve investigative and risk management processes
What you’ll need to be successful:
Demonstrated experience using open source techniques including social media and online investigation sources and methodologies to support investigations
Prior experience in process improvement and the ability to implement structure and governance where it does not already exist
Critical thinking and problem solving skills, and the ability to balance the priorities and inputs of multiple stakeholder groups
Sound judgment to assess when and how to make tradeoffs between speed and quality
Flexibility in responding to changes in assignments and job responsibilities
Excellent written and oral communication, listening, and organizational skills
Ability to present complex topics in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to accountable executives and stakeholders to enable swift and accurate decision making
A growth mindset and aptitude for learning in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
Strong sense of when to operate independently and when to seek support to resolve an issue
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
At least 3 years of Human Resources, Legal or Risk Management experience
At least 3 years of investigation experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or military experience
Wicklander-Zulawski Certification in interviewing methods or equivalent
5+ years of experience working in a team corporate environment
5+ years of Human Resources or legal experience focused on employment investigations
Human Resources certification
Knowledge of employment law and practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $126,700 - $144,600 for HR Specialist
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
