The Market Intelligence team within Strategy produces competitive intelligence on the broader financial industry. The team oversees the construction and stewardship of proprietary strategic intelligence data and provides subject matter expertise on both confidential and syndicated datasets related to competitive and industry activity.

The Market Intelligence Data Analyst (DA) will work with Corporate Strategy colleagues and line of business (LOB) clients to provide analytic support to specific strategy engagements and LOB programs. The successful DA candidate will work across multiple lines of business including Card, Bank, Mortgage, and Auto Finance to develop, maintain and analyze Capital One proprietary datasets as well as syndicated sources that support strategy development and business decision making. This job involves significant interaction with outside vendors as well as internal Tech teams to enable Capital One participation in various benchmarking programs. This role also offers the opportunity for DAs to provide analytical expertise in support of senior leadership and Board of Directors meetings, and critical strategy projects. 

You will leverage your analytical and technical skills to innovate, build, and maintain well-managed data solutions and capabilities to solve complex business problems.

On any given day you will

 

  • Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team to conduct state-of-the-art analysis

  • Own the creation and enhancement of existing and new proprietary datasets to support the company’s overall Card, Bank and Financial Services strategies, as well as LOB-specific decision-making at the product, marketing and policy levels 

  • In partnership with our engineering team, maintain data infrastructure relating to Market Intelligence proprietary applications and develop scripts to automate or enhance existing processes in order to reduce cycle time, ensure data quality and enable analysis and insight generation 

  • Maintain and develop standard, periodic reporting leveraging existing data sources that includes appropriate documentation and data definitions 

  • Partner with multiple lines of business and outside firms to benchmark Capital One against competitors in the credit card and retail banking arenas 

  • Train company analysts to access and use proprietary and syndicated Market Intelligence data sources and serve as an SME with respect to data access, definitions and data availability 

  • Provide ad hoc analytical support for strategy projects, LOB efforts, Board of Directors meetings and other senior level presentations

 

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree specialized in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics discipline

  • Scripting experience in (Python, R, Spark, and SQL)

  • Strong desire and experience with data in various forms (data warehouses/SQL, unstructured data)

  • Experience utilizing and developing within Snowflake services

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related quantitative field) plus at least 2 years of experience performing data analytics, or currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Master’s Degree with an expectation that required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date.

  •  At least 1 year of experience working with at least one scripting language 

  •  At least 1 year of experience utilizing business intelligence visualization tool 

  •  At least 1 year of experience querying, analyzing and working with data languages and platforms

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics discipline

    • At least 2 years of experience coding in Python, R, Spark, or SQL

    • At least 2 years of experience working within process management and improvement methodologies – Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.

    • At least 1 year of experience utilizing and developing within AWS services

    • At least 1 year of experience working with and demonstrating knowledge of data governance, data quality management concepts and data quality tools (i.e. Informatica DQ)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $109,000 - $124,400 for Sr. Data Analyst

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
