Capital One is seeking an experienced and talented market research professional to lead our Marketing Insights team within the Business Cards and Payments organization. In this role, you will provide customer insights that inform marketing, advertising, and brand building strategies for Capital One Business. The ideal candidate will be a curious leader with significant experience designing and managing primary research. They will be comfortable leading foundational customer needs research, product or brand positioning, naming research, and much more. The ideal candidate will be able to synthesize findings, build compelling stories, and partner with marketing leads to drive stepchange growth in business outcomes.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead a team that provides ongoing consumer research expertise and consultation to internal partners and senior leaders in support of marketing strategy decisions

  • Diagnose and interpret brand, communications, and business issues to identify knowledge gaps so that you can develop a powerful learning agenda

  • Lead research design, execution and delivery of insights utilizing a variety of brand measurement sources, including brand health and communications trackers, creative pre-testing, in-market advertising and media effectiveness studies, and ad-hoc custom qualitative and quantitative studies - effectively working with and managing third-party research partners

  • Leverage data and insights across a variety of primary, secondary and syndicated sources to bolster insights and recommendations delivered to internal partners

  • Partner with business and marketing leads to develop the annual brand strategy, advertising, and media learning agenda to address knowledge gaps and test assertions

  • Present brand and marketing insights to internal partners, peers and senior leaders, influencing others through story-telling and impactful insights that drive discussion and business action

  • Contribute and continually update your knowledge of evidence-based marketing to refine Capital One’s brand strategy, measurement approaches, and thinking regarding brand perceptions and business results

  • Integrate and share insights across lines of business, peers, and leaders to collaborate on key marketing issues and obtain buy-in for research plans to address any knowledge gaps

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Intellectual curiosity – comfortable attacking white space problems and proactively proposing and pursuing new research projects to address key gaps

  • An intense focus on understanding the customer, in this case business owners and executives

  • Strong analytic skills, including the ability to read and interpret survey results, identify insights, and synthesize how these insights impact marketing strategy 

  • Strong writing and presentation skills, with outstanding storytelling skills and experience simplifying complex subject matter to present actionable findings in a compelling way

  • Ability to create data visualizations to demonstrate key insights

  • Ability to influence business partners throughout the Business Cards organization and beyond

  • Experience in planning, execution, and analysis of market research, including questionnaire design, experimental design, qualitative research, and other market research methods

  • Experience with development and management of an on-going market research learning agenda

  • Basic knowledge of database management systems

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in a market research role on either the supplier side or client side within the marketing research profession (planning and executing studies)

  • At least 2 years of experience working with analytical tools such as Python, R, SAS, SPSS, SQL or other relational database tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree, such as an MBA or a Master of Science (Business, Marketing Research, Consumer Psychology, Management Consulting, or Related field)

  • At least 2 years experience in a marketing strategy role

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $170,800 - $194,900 for Sr. Manager, Marketing


 

Richmond, VA: $155,300 - $177,200 for Sr. Manager, Marketing

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
