Director, Resiliency Advisory & Oversight, Technology Risk Management

Technology Risk Management (TRM) is a growing organization focused on providing expert advice, credible challenge, and effective oversight of information security and technology activities to identify, assess, control, and manage cyber and technology risk throughout the company. This organization plays a critical role in helping to ensure that the company’s risk-taking entities are aware of the risks inherent in their activities and decisions, the impact of their actions on the company at an enterprise level, and opportunities to reduce, mitigate, or avoid risks altogether. Associates within the Technology Risk Management organization are highly-skilled information security, cyber, technology, or risk management professionals who have a wealth of experience and a demonstrated ability to provide value-added recommendations and deliver high-impact results in their areas of expertise.

We are currently seeking a dynamic leader with significant Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) experience. We will be undergoing a massive technology migration from legacy data center environments to the public cloud. This individual will oversee the operational leaders in charge of this execution providing expert advice on resiliency design, standards, and best practices to ensure maximum uptime is maintained during migration. The ideal candidate for this role will have a deep understanding of resiliency processes, technologies, and methods in a “five nines” reliability organization. Experience with both traditional data center and public cloud architecture and engineering, specifically AWS is preferred. This is an individual contributor role that will develop relationships and influence engineering and risk teams across Capital One.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and challenge to technology migration activities including strategy, tooling, processes, and requirements to ensure SRE best practices are being followed

  • Enable best practices to ensure 99.999% reliability across a mixed legacy and cloud environment

  • Work closely with enterprise architects, product managers, engineers, and SRE teams to understand our current SRE technologies, processes and approaches and influence change

  • Drive the maturation of a nascent Site Reliability Engineering organization, in part by raising the bar on excellence

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 8 years of experience in information security, technology or risk management

  • At least 3 years of experience with site reliability engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years specific experience with financial payment processes and technologies

  • Experience enabling technology that requires 99.999% availability

  • Experience with DevOps best practices, including how to constantly raise the bar on quality and agility at scale in a large enterprise

  • Experience with financial sector regulatory practices and second line of defense effective challenge

  • Experience with performing, documenting and socializing risk assessments

  • 3+ years practitioner experience with public, cloud technologies (AWS and GCP), cloud tooling and technical practices

  • Familiarity NIST Cybersecurity Framework controls (NIST 800-53)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $274,800 - $313,600 for Director, Cyber Technical

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
