In this pivotal role, you will be the driving force behind proactive risk management, transforming uncertainty into opportunity. As a Principal Risk Associate, you will:

  • Become a subject matter expert, deeply understanding business strategies, products, services, and their unique risk profiles.

  • Anticipate and assess the impact of evolving regulatory landscapes on business objectives and risk appetite, providing forward-thinking advisory.

  • Proactively identify emerging risks and trends through meticulous data analysis, delivering actionable insights that guide internal stakeholders.

  • Offer expert guidance and advice to business partners on the effective implementation of robust risk policies and programs.

  • Foster seamless collaboration across risk, compliance, legal, and other essential business support functions.

  • Ensure independent and timely escalation of risk management gaps, issues, and emerging concerns to executive leadership and the Board of Directors, as appropriate.

  • Champion continuous improvement in risk management practices, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, eliminate waste, and elevate the customer experience.

  • Drive the containment and remediation of process breakdowns in close partnership with compliance, legal, and business process teams.

  • Exhibit a proven ability to analyze complex trends, pinpoint root causes, and propose impactful advisory solutions.

  • Identify potential risks to current strategies and develop action plans to mitigate them.

  • Proactively engage with business partners to develop and implement risk mitigation plans.

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the business and regulatory environment.

  • Influence decisions and drive results through effective communication and collaboration.

  • Mentor and guide junior associates, fostering their development.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 3 years of experience in project, process, program, or risk management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's Degree, MBA, or Juris Doctorate

  • 2+ years of experience presenting to senior leadership

  • 2+ years analyzing trends, determining root cause, and proposing solutions

  • 5+ years of experience in project, process, program, or risk management

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
