Manager, Payment Risk Transformation - Hybrid

The Enterprise Payments organization sits within the Retail bank and is at the heart of our company’s financial infrastructure, supporting the most critical domains of payment processing. In addition to our core payments processing, we provide oversight for end-to-end payment strategy, operations, and risk management for all payment types across the enterprise.  

The Enterprise Payments Governance and Oversight (EPGO) team is seeking a dynamic Manager to define and implement the future of payments governance across the enterprise. In this high-visibility role, you will tackle major payments-related challenges while continuously elevating day-to-day governance practices. You will collaborate closely with key cross-functional stakeholders to maintain a dynamic, resilient, and well-managed payments ecosystem. Partnering directly with executive leadership, you will help shape governance strategy and drive critical initiatives aligned with overall business priorities. Working alongside a team of highly talented peers, you will be challenged to innovate and grow continuously. Ultimately, your work will directly impact how the enterprise mitigates risk, modernizes operations, and leads in the payments landscape. 

The Team 

The Enterprise Payments team drives a dynamic, well-managed, and compliant payments ecosystem across all enterprise lines of business. We partner directly with senior executive leadership to shape and execute payments governance strategies, ensuring robust risk management across complex payment rails (including RTP, ACH, and wire).

The Role

  • Design & Scale Data Frameworks: Design data-driven risk reporting frameworks that translate dense risk landscape metrics into actionable executive insights.

  • Drive AI & Process Automation: Identify and deploy Generative AI and tools to eliminate manual risk monitoring routines and modernize workflows.

  • Deliver Executive Intelligence: Partner with data analytics teams to build dynamic, real-time dashboards for proactive trend analysis and early risk identification.

  • Bridge Strategy & Execution: Connect high-level data strategy with 1st and 2nd Line of Defense teams to ensure alignment with the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.

  • Support Enterprise Governance: Lead cross-functional reporting efforts on behalf of EPGO and consult with executive leadership to enable risk initiatives enterprise-wide.

The Person

  • Data-Driven Innovator: Possesses an analytical background with hands-on experience using GenAI, automated tools, or low-code platforms (e.g., Jira, AppSheet) to automate manual processes.

  • Strategic Storyteller: Translates complex data into clear, compelling narratives and visual dashboards for executive and technical audiences.

  • Influential Leader: Command executive presence with the proven ability to navigate complex matrix organizations, build consensus, and lead change.

  • Risk & Process Experience: Awareness of financial services operational risk frameworks (e.g., RCSA, Issues & Event Management) and business process re-engineering.

Location: This role is hybrid, where you will be expected to spend 3 days per week working in the office and the remainder of the week working virtually.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in risk management

  • At least 2 years of storytelling and presenting technical ideations across multiple stakeholder groups

  • At least 3 years of relationship management experience 

  • At least 2  years experience in data management or reporting

  • At least 2 years of experience using Google Suite or Microsoft Office

  • At least 2 years of experience using Generative AI tools

  • At least 4 years experience in the banking or financial industry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in risk management

  • At least 3 years of process, program, or project management experience

  • At least 4  years of experience in data management or data analysis

  • At least 3 years of experience working in payments

  • At least 5 years of relationship management experience

  • At least 2 years of experience using reporting and workflow management tools 

  • Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification or  Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
