Job Description:
The Principal Project Manager will lead IT infrastructure initiatives for office and campus locations, ensuring efficient implementation of network, wi-fi, voice, audio visuals, security systems, and other technologies. This role involves coordinating site surveys, cost estimations, equipment installation, equipment removal, and vendor management for new builds, renovations, and closures. The ideal candidate will collaborate with design and construction teams, oversee circuit orders, manage IT cabling infrastructure and technology installation or removal, and validate all technology components before site go-live. Excellent communication skills are a requirement for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Office New Builds
Conduct site surveys and develop cost estimations.
Design and implement MDF/IDF infrastructure.
Develop technical design documents for network, voice, and wireless.
Manage network circuit orders (Internet, Wireless POTS, Broadband, Cellular, SIP).
Oversee IT cabling infrastructure (data, security, AV, wireless, voice, DAS).
Ensure installation and testing of network, voice, and server equipment.
Perform site validation and user acceptance testing.
Office Renovations & Transformations
Determine technology requirements and cost estimation.
Oversee IT cabling upgrades and installation of new equipment.
Manage LAN rack restacking and remediation.
Validate all IT infrastructure before project completion.
Office Closures
Identify and decommission IT equipment and carrier services.
Coordinate network disconnects and main number redirection.
Manage secure removal and sorting of network equipment for reuse or disposal.
Engage carriers for voice and data circuit disconnections.
Project Management & Coordination
Lead integration and installation phases, ensuring timely hardware delivery.
Manage technology vendors and oversee IT infrastructure changes.
Track project progress, update stakeholders, and ensure construction turnover.
Conduct final site validation to confirm operational readiness.
This role requires strong project management skills, technical expertise in IT infrastructure, and experience working with construction teams and technology vendors. The successful candidate will ensure that all office and campus locations are equipped with reliable, secure, and efficient technology to support business operations.
As a Principal Project Manager, you will
Work on small to large scale projects that have a direct impact on different Capital One business lines and Global Workplace Services
Plan, design, manage and execute project plans
Drive projects based on defined priorities; ensure scope of deliverables, timelines and budget are met
Identify risks and issues, and mitigate and / or escalate as needed
Leverage analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure project plans deliver on intent
Align with project customers to ensure a strategic and tactical thought partnership
Establish collaborative partnership with key stakeholders
Facilitate meetings and lead cross-functional teams to deliver impactful business outcomes
Prepare and deliver effective verbal and written communications regarding project status for both internal and LOB teams (via meetings, Google Slides, Slack, Confluence, Jira)
Maintain key project documentation
Recommend and implement process improvements
Skills & Experience:
Experience in Project Management, Change Management and Process Improvement
Exhibit a proven track record of effective project management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage a project
Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders to manage, inform and influence outcomes
Self-motivated, able to support and initiate change in periods of uncertainty and ambiguity
Contribute positively to a value driven culture and actively participate in a strong teamwork environment
Strong attention to detail
Strong ability to work autonomously, managing his or her own time effectively with minimal supervision
Highly organized with an ability to remain focused and flexible to an ever-changing environment
Ability to take ownership and solve problems autonomously
Proficient in G-Suite applications (Slides, Sheets, Docs, G-Mail), Jira, Confluence, Slack, Zoom
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience
At least 5 years of Project Management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of IT Network and Infrastructure experience
7+ years of Project Management experience
PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Project Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
