Senior Associate, Chief of Staff, Core Risk (Enterprise Services Risk)

 Capital One Enterprise Services Risk (ESR) is seeking a high potential candidate to join our Core Risk Chief of Staff (CoS) team.   Our Chief of Staff organization requires big-picture strategic thinkers who pay close attention to details and are ready to take on high-visibility and high-impact work. The team plays a critical role across ES Risk building and nurturing relationships within the organization, across lines of business and partner teams, and even outside of Capital One and is an important culture carrier for the organization, modeling the right behaviors and creating a shared sense of purpose, leadership, and accountability with and for the team.   

A Chief of Staff is integral to productivity and effectiveness and the right hand to our senior leadership.  They are multi-talented professionals wearing many hats with multifarious responsibilities, encapsulating the direction that drives our teams forward, while also acting as the glue to ease communications and unite people.  They help lead, facilitate, and execute on a variety of an organization’s goals.  This Senior Associate role is responsible for moving the needle across several key functions including Executive Support and Strategy, Delivery Governance, Workforce Management, and Associate Engagement.  The individual will work with their direct leadership and CoS team in Core Risk, as well as other ESR CoS teams to support both the ESR Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and broader organization to drive strategic goals, identify and realize efficiencies, and ensure collaboration across teams. 

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, able to think on their feet, understand the process of setting and delivering on strategic goals, have sharp execution skills, and know how to lead and drive change. They should be able to connect the dots between good process and great results, effectively influence others to achieve goals, and drive meaningful conversations with senior leaders.  Candidates should be self-motivated, with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, executive presence, and a passion for solving complex problems. What You’ll Own 

  • Delivery Governance:  Execute leadership routines to support the organization, including but not limited to:  Support of SLT meetings; Monthly Business Review (MBR) development, delivery and optimization efforts, and additional governance functions as needed 

    • Organize and facilitate the Core Risk MBR and inputs to the ESR MBR

    • Assist with other reporting routines including quarterly Risk Oversight Committee reporting and Quarterly Examiner Reviews 

    • Assist with administrative responsibilities such as, creating and managing daily task list for Head of Core Risk, partnering with program teams to ensure ample prep time and on-time delivery of key deliverables.  Track actions required of Enterprise Services Business Chief Risk Officer (BCRO) and Chief Enterprise Service Officer (CESO) related to our programs.

    • Maintain and enhance process documentation

    • Manage shared calendar

  • Strategy & Priorities:  

    • Manage general workflow and day-to-day activities in support of organizational goals; assist the team in prioritization and make recommendations to leadership as needed  

    • Share insights and draw connections between the various programs and processes to strengthen process and build efficiencies

    • Support annual and ongoing strategic planning within Core Risk and across the organization

    • Manage tracking and reporting of goals to illustrate progress against ESR Imperatives

  • Associate Engagement & Empowerment:  Support associate engagement agenda, including but not limited to: associate communications, development, recognition and rewards programs

  • Partnership with ES BCRO Chief of Staff Organization:  Ensure coordination of efforts across local team Chief of Staff efforts and top of house Chief of Staff organization.  Requires effective partnership and collaboration for sharing best practices, influencing strategy, and flawless execution of shared activities.

  • Program Execution and Support:  

  • Support the Core Risk team with 1) identifying, assessing, mitigating, monitoring, and reporting at the process, business unit, division, and enterprise levels for Enterprise Services including technology, cybersecurity, product, data and 2) conducting analysis of data extracts to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies to draw conclusions on risk management activities

  • Support regulatory and audit engagements as needed inclusive of technology and cybersecurity domains (ex. Cloud Technologies/service providers, Third Party Risk Management, New Payment technologies, Tech and Facility Operations, Software Development (SDLC), Change Management, Architecture, IAM, Vulnerability Mgmt, etc.)

  • Support high visibility projects and Enterprise wide programs requested by senior leadership i.e. Generative AI, International, and Material Technology and Cyber Change

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Certification

  • At least 1 year of experience in project, program, process management, or a combination 

  • At least 1 year of experience in Risk Management supporting or working within technology or cyber

  • At least 1 year of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal stakeholders

  • At least 1 year of experience writing and sending communication enterprise wide

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management (PMP) or Program Management (PgMP) certification

  • 2+  years of experience in Business Process Management, Project Management, or Risk Management

  • 2+ years of experience in Tech and Cyber Risk Management 

  • 2+ years of experience managing highly visible projects that require the ability to manage cross-functional team members, remove obstacles, and influence appropriately

  • 2+ years of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging experience or related training/certification

  • 2+ years of experience navigating and influencing change management both with Executive leadership and associates

  • 2+ years of experience consulting or strategy building with executives

  • 2+years of internal audit or regulatory exam experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $109,000 - $124,400 for Sr. Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
