As a Product Manager on the CORE Product team, you will design and deliver best-in-class, innovative, data-driven technology products that delight our customers—Capital One’s engineers, SREs, and other internal stakeholders. We’re passionate about building platform software for the next generation of technologists at Capital One and are looking for someone excited to build tech platforms at scale.

In this role, you will be a Senior Product Manager building observability and monitoring tools that help Capital One’s technologists build and maintain reliable, resilient, and observable applications. You will work with a highly technical internal customer base made up of Capital One’s engineers, operations staff, and SREs across 1,800 software engineering teams; you will collaborate with vendors to influence their roadmap as well as owning the roadmap for internal tools; and you’ll use your technical expertise to guide, influence, and collaborate with builders right across the company. 

The ideal candidate is:

  • Excited by new technology: you use it, you like to learn about it, ideally in your past you built it; 

  • Cloud enthusiast: you have expertise in, or are excited about, cloud services and the future of software development and deployment;

  • Energized by engineers: you’re in your comfort zone working with engineers, you understand and empathize with their challenges, and can communicate with engineers on their level;

  • A product-management expert: you enjoy building product strategies and business cases, then drilling down to execution metrics, thoughtfully prioritizing, and delivering;

  • An excellent communicator: you understand the importance of storytelling, and you enjoy continuously improving your communication skills; and,

  • Comfortable working in the gray space: you are comfortable working through ambiguity and change management, and enjoy turning undefined space into a clear vision and execution.

Responsibilities include:

Taking a customer-focused, data-driven approach to defining, executing, and delivering a product roadmap and product strategy

Contributing to the design of Capital One’s observability and monitoring strategy, and then executing on that strategy to improve our engineer and SRE experience;

Working with highly technical customers of a large platform at the center of the company;

Engaging our engineer customers directly through a variety of channels, serving as the voice of the customer internally, identifying new capabilities, defining product features, and working closely with development teams to get features incorporated

Working in a cross-functional group - you will work closely with engineering, design, operations, finance, and executive teams to bring a product to life

Drive the product management practice within the organization, defining expectations and commitments

Operationalizing product metrics for the products you own and building the business case for new investment

Influencing senior stakeholders to use our products and sharing the outcomes enabling stronger investment

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

At least 5 years of experience in digital product management, product design, agile delivery, business analysis, data science, or software engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

MBA or Master’s degree

3+ years of experience in Agile product management

Experience translating business strategy and analysis into consumer facing digital products

Experience with observability & monitoring tools

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $193,000 - $220,300 for Sr. Mgr, Product Management


 

New York, NY: $210,500 - $240,300 for Sr. Mgr, Product Management


 

Richmond, VA: $175,500 - $200,300 for Sr. Mgr, Product Management


 

San Francisco, CA: $210,500 - $240,300 for Sr. Mgr, Product Management


 


 


 


 


 


 


 

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
