Location: McLean, Virginia
Job ID R1004650 Updated date 10/28/2026
Senior Associate, Third Party Risk | Retail Bank

As a Senior Associate in the Retail Risk Office, you will apply your understanding of foundational risk management principles, your analytical skills, and your experience collaborating to solve challenging issues to support third party risk management across the Retail Bank and Premium Products & Experiences business. In this role, you will serve as a vital liaison connecting centralized assessment teams, vertical risk managers, and other key partners to support senior leaders with accurate, timely, and actionable reporting. Responsibilities include governance control execution, supporting issue resolution and remediation, and synthesising third party risk data to drive actionable governance insights. This role requires a proactive problem solver who is comfortable asking probing questions across functional areas, navigating ambiguity, and ensuring that third-party risks are identified, monitored, and well managed consistent with the firm’s policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Execute key third party risk governance controls and operational routines
  • Maintain rigorous, audit-ready documentation and evidence of governance routines that withstand internal control testing, audits, and regulatory examinations
  • Act as a liaison between third party assessment teams, vertical risk managers, and business stakeholders, facilitating smooth communication and alignment
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to track, monitor, and support the resolution of third party issues and control gaps
  • Escalate roadblocks, emerging risks, or control breakdowns effectively within and outside immediate job scope to ensure timely management attention
  • Support the development and maintenance of dashboard views and reporting models to communicate third-party risk postures to risk committees and leadership
  • Build trust-based, collaborative relationships across cross-functional teams to foster consensus on issue resolution

About you:

  • Proactive Risk Navigator: You combine a solid knowledge of risk management fundamentals with a curiosity to understand complex processes, ask probing questions, and uncover operational dependencies or indirect risks
  • Autonomous Executor and Problem Solver: You take ownership of execution within broader strategies, working autonomously to improve processes, overcome tactical obstacles, and identify root causes of issues without getting stuck in analysis paralysis
  • Collaborative Partner and Influencer: You deliberately build positive, trust-based relationships across cross-functional teams, partnering with stakeholders to reach consensus, address concerns, and guide them toward shared outcomes
  • Effective Communicator: You communicate confidently with your team and leadership 2-3 levels above, skillfully tailoring messages across mediums (written, verbal, slides) to explain the "so what" of risk findings clearly and concisely
  • Integrated Thinker: You connect the dots between risk data, business operations, and enterprise goals, balancing rigor and perfection with timelines to deliver high-quality, practical risk management solutions
  • Agile and Growth-Minded: You navigate ambiguity comfortably, embrace change productively, and actively seek continuous learning opportunities to sharpen your skills and elevate partner teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in Risk Assessment or Risk Management
  • At least 2 years of experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to track, execute, or report on governance controls or risk remediation efforts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in Operational Risk Management or Third Party Risk Management
  • Strong understanding of foundational enterprise risk management frameworks (e.g., COBIT ERM, ISO 31000) and their application to operational risk management
  • Experience leveraging data analytics and visualization tools, such as Tableau, to synthesize risk data and support risk reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, analyze root causes, and execute on tactical risk initiatives with limited direct supervision
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex risk information into clear business risk messaging
