Director, Business Development - Global Payments Network

The Director of Business Development drives the strategy and execution for the direct-to-merchant sales organization in Mexico, expanding Discover Global Network acceptance across key commercial verticals. This executive role is responsible for recruiting, building, and leading a high-performing merchant sales team, establishing sales enablement programs, and managing the entire business development pipeline. You will partner closely with internal executive stakeholders (Pricing, Risk, Legal, Product) to align on growth strategies, negotiate complex high-value deals, and achieve volume and revenue targets.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Bring deep payments industry expertise and leverage commercial networks to unlock target accounts

  • Possess deep industry knowledge and leverage a strong professional network to identify and capture new business opportunities.

  • Have proven ability to lead, coach, and engage high-performing teams to deliver strong results.

  • Demonstrate superior negotiation, consulting, and closing skills with C-suite stakeholders.

  • Exhibit a strong commitment to team culture, risk management, and transparent communication.

What You’ll Do:

  • Direct and coordinate sales activities with Mexico merchants to drive DGN acceptance in key verticals, leading the team.

  • Review and provide opinion on merchant deals including price concessions, client incentives and contract changes.

  • Gain consensus internally and externally. Meet with department heads, managers, vendors and others to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.

  • Create a culture of effective risk management, accountability, and demonstration of risk awareness across the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • At least 8 years of experience in direct sales, account management, product management, or contract negotiation.

  • Intermediate - Advanced English fluency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Finance, Marketing, Mathematics, Statistics, or Analytics.

  • At least 10 years of experience in direct sales or account management within the payments or financial services industry.

Travel: This position will be travelling up to 50% within Mexico.
