Senior Manager, Controllers, Chief of Staff Team

As a Senior Manager in Controllers supporting the Controllers Chief of Staff team focused on strategy at Capital One, you will get a front row seat to planning, culture, project management, strategy, and execution. The Controllers Chief of Staff plays a pivotal role in driving and coordinating multiple functional areas to operate seamlessly as one unified team. This role is responsible for nurturing a positive and inclusive organizational culture through 1) Executive Support; 2) Associate Experience; 3) One Controllers Culture; 4) Business Operations; 5) Budget & Labor Management and Strategy; 6) Well-managed Functions. You will help lead a high-performing organization with a focus on building out well managed processes. You will bring a risk-centric mindset to govern consolidated financial processes and ensure financial results are reported completely and accurately. You will lead critical processes such as communications, budget, vendor reporting, tracking success metrics, and managing key initiatives with a risk-focused approach. With high visibility, you will have the opportunity to present to executive stakeholders and collaborate with teams across the enterprise to influence and support Controllers teams goal of delivering high quality results via effective and well-managed processes. Additionally, you will lead cultural initiatives and communications in partnership with the leaders across the Controllers organization.

This role demands exceptional communication and organizational skills and the ability to handle tasks beyond those of other leadership members. You will be responsible for both strategic oversight and hands-on execution. The ideal candidate is an outstanding communicator, capable of challenging the status quo, influencing meaningful change, and fostering strong relationships across departments and stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the organization’s strategy and vision, lead the VP+ community to drive and track goals and priorities. Identify and solve issues through appropriate escalations and accountability

  • Oversee change management related to Strategy, Human Resources, Finance, and Communications

  • Co-Leads Program Management and communications for Controllers as an input to broader Finance as appropriate

  • Aligns and integrates Controllers strategy to Finance & Enterprise

  • Leads engagement across Finance and Controllers leadership to drive broader strategy:

    • Drives Culture & Communication Strategies

    • Budget & Resource Needs

    • Engagement Strategy across Partner Teams

    • Prioritization & Sequencing 

  • Proactively elevate risks and impacts to Controller and make key linkages within our teams and the broader organization timely 

  • Creates and maintains communication channels to provide timely updates to ensure continuous alignment and required awareness

  • Influence broader Finance sequencing and prioritization 

  • In partnership with HR and the SLT and VP+ community, support creation of and execution of appropriate talent strategies to drive toward and support business goals.

  • Perform operational analysis, including risk management.

  • Support strategic planning, integration management, budget and headcount in partnership with Finance, Human Resources, and SLT.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in accounting, audit, financial services, project management, chief of staff or a combination

  • At least 2 years of people management experience

  • At least 1 year of experience engaging with executive level stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

  • 2+ years of experience engaging with executive level stakeholders

  • 9+  years of experience in accounting, audit, financial services, project management, chief of staff or a combination 

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, audit, or financial services

  • 5+  years of experience in people management

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $170,800 - $194,900 for Sr Manager, Project Management

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
