Our goal is to create one of the nation's great banks, and we have the necessary ingredients: a strong balance sheet, resilient businesses, a massive customer franchise, strong analytical capabilities, and great people. Role Summary: Do you want to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Card Payments platform as we migrate to modernized architectures? Capital One is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager to lead our Control Modernization tower. In this role, you will be at the intersection of operations, data analytics, product, and technology, driving initiatives that enhance our platform's security, compliance, and overall customer experience.

You will lead a hybrid, cross-functional team of Project Managers and Data Analysts, partnering closely with Risk, Product, and Technology teams to design and implement robust controls for our most critical enterprise initiatives (including the Discover integration and platform modernization). Additionally, your team will serve as the analytical heartbeat of the Payments organization, owning control health dashboards, issue/event analysis and executive reporting.

This Senior Manager will lead a team of at least 3 associates and will be pivotal in several key objectives:

  • Lead a Hybrid Team: Manage, mentor, and guide a combined team of project managers and data analysts, fostering a collaborative environment focused on delivering secure, data-driven payment solutions.

  • Drive Control Modernization: Oversee the project management lifecycle for building, testing, and deploying modernized, automated controls for the Payments Platform and ecosystem.

  • Support Strategic Platform Integrations: Manage control and risk readiness for massive payment modernization efforts ensuring seamless transitions, robust control coverage, and zero customer harm.

  • Own Executive Reporting & Analytics: Oversee the BAU data operations for the Payments organization, including driving the Monthly Business Review (MBR) metrics, managing ad-hoc data requests, and supporting data-pulls for active risk Issues and Events.

  • Develop Monitoring & Dashboards: Guide your Data Analysts in building and maintaining automated dashboards (via QuickSight/Tableau) that track control health, mismatch volumes, and platform anomalies.

  • Partner on the "Build to Run" Lifecycle: Collaborate seamlessly with the L2 Operations (BAU) and Data Product/SRE towers to ensure modernized controls are efficiently handed off for daily governance once deployed.

  • Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across various departments, including Risk, Product, Technology, Operations, Legal, and Compliance.

Are you the right fit? We are seeking a leader who bridges the gap between project management and data analytics. You have a strong understanding of payment processing, risk management, and control frameworks, but you are equally comfortable discussing SQL, data visualization, and reporting metrics. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional project management skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to effectively communicate complex data and risk concepts to executive leadership.

Ideal Candidate Would Have:

  • Experience in the financial services industry, with a focus on payment operations, risk management, or compliance.

  • Experience managing or partnering closely with data analysts, with a strong foundational understanding of data visualization (Tableau/QuickSight) and data querying.

  • Experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring controls within a complex, modernized operational environment (cloud/API-driven platforms).

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Risk, Product, and Technology teams during large-scale platform migrations or integrations.

Basic Qualifications:
