The Philosophy and Intent team is responsible for ensuring our talent and performance management strategy will deliver on our business and talent goals today and in the future. Our goal is to leverage internal and external research and benchmarking to define intent that will drive the outcomes we seek for associates and our company. We are looking for a talented expert in their domain who is passionate about shaping the future vision of talent and performance management at Capital One.
As a Manager on the Philosophy and Intent team, you will leverage your expertise to design and deliver innovative talent and performance strategies to support our shared business goals. With an emphasis on consulting and quantitative and qualitative analysis, you’ll support the design, validation, and implementation of TM/PM tools, processes, and practices to help ensure Capital One has an industry-leading human capital approach across the associate life-cycle.
Our ideal candidate will display a strong balance of analytical and problem solving skills, business consulting, and communication competencies as well as the ability to work in a dynamic team environment. You will work collaboratively with direct team members and cross-functional partners to design and conduct research, develop data-backed recommendations, and lead projects with enterprise-wide impact.
As a Manager on the Philosophy and Intent team, your main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Lead a set of philosophy and intent imperatives, including support of internal and external research to establish grounded perspectives and plans for TM/PM systems and processes
Effectively and independently build alignment on decisions within a project while developing a “trusted partner” relationship with senior HR leaders and partners
Develop data-backed TM/PM perspectives that can be documented and/or presented to create alignment and influence adoption across the enterprise
Lead the design, development, validation, testing, and implementation of practical, effective, defensible, and associate-friendly products, tools, and processes
Communicate results of statistical analyses, along with their implications, to technical and non-technical audiences in order to drive significant decisions
Mentor or coach team members to develop interaction models and build trust
Represent TM/PM philosophy viewpoints in various forums, such as senior stakeholder presentations, trainings, or office hours
Serve as an analyst for talent and performance management solutions and programs, such as business impact analyses
Successful Manager on the Philosophy and Intent team demonstrate competencies in these areas:
Execution: Develop and test hypotheses, design solutions, assess operational feasibility, lead implementation efforts, and develop plans and tools for monitoring outcomes
Partnership: Collaborate with colleagues across Capital One including: HR, Product, Operations, and others to drive associate experience improvements and business results.
Strategic & Analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation.
Business communication: Impeccable written and oral communication skills, including strong visualization skills (i.e., able to “tell the story” and highlight key insights in a clear and concise manner that is easily understood by stakeholders at all levels across the organization and with varying levels of technical savvy).
Results focus: Drives for results and achieves important goals applying strong organizational skills and detail orientation
Analysis: Identify opportunities for improvement and use data to make strategic and tactical recommendations
Basic Qualifications:
Master's Degree
4 years of experience in talent assessment, talent development, or talent management
At least 3 years of experience in consulting
At least 2 years of data analysis experience conducting analyses, and building statistical models in R, Python, or SQL
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or other technical or quantitative discipline, including but not limited to Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Economics, or Behavioral Economics
Proficient in Python
Knowledge of advanced statistical methodologies, including regression, longitudinal analysis, or Bayesian modeling
Experience working in cross-functional teams to push enterprise-level talent management projects through to completion
Proficient in using Google Suite products or similar programs

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Richmond, VA: $144,000 - $164,400 for Manager People Scientist
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
